Paul’s Charge

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Ephesians 6:18 (KJV)

When one faces life threatening situations there is an intensity in the fight to survive. Fists and feet fly when we think someone is going to die—especially if it’s us! Just so, we are engaged in a great spiritual battle and people are dieing spiritually. This is war! We wrestle with a mighty foe who’s vindictive forces crave our destruction.

So, here stands the Apostle Paul in our garrison’s armory handing out weapons: swords, shields, helmets, you name it. Now that we have these in hand his plea is urgent. Energize! Call on God’s support. Now. Everyday. Every moment! Pray!

But Paul’s pleading has faded to an ancient echo. We shuffle through life without the energy, without passion or direction, content to fire a volley of words over dinner, or at bedtime, or say Amen at church. And our enemy is pleased. So much power … so much waste … so little resistance!

We are pushovers. We are weak. Without Him, we are nothing but pathetic … and our enemy knows it.

Paul still speaks; God still calls: man your stations! Come to life.

Father, I need You! I need a constant communion with You. Help me Lord. Hear my prayer! Amen.
