The Character of a Prayer Warrior

He was faithful and honest and always responsible. ... Daniel ... knelt down as usual in his upstairs room with his windows open to Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.

Daniel 6:4,10 (NLT)

I have always admired Daniel. In fact, I want to be more like him: loyal, fearless, godly. These are good traits among so many more. You know, I've never read anything negative about Daniel--either in God's word or in commentaries. I just haven't seen it, and the Scripture tells us his enemies didn't see it either. Daniel was a very godly man: disciplined, doing what needed to be done regardless of the cost to self.

One of Daniel's secret disciplines, which was not so secret, was prayer and thanksgiving. Hmm. Since I want to be more like Daniel, I think I'll follow his example. As I do, I want to resume praying with fervency and purpose three times a day, focused on great needs and deep heart interests. I want to pray for family and friends and special needs. As I do, I know what this discipline will do. It will bring healing and restoration, victory and focus and ultimately, I think, it will change me. I know it will. It will help me be the better person God wants me to be. What more could anyone want?

Father, help me to be like Your man Daniel, but even more, help me be the person You want me to be--fully devoted to You! Amen.
